AUTO RACING: White, Meisenbach win titles at Havasu Speedway

February 26, 2019 GMT

Linny White swept the late model races on Saturday to defend his track championship in the division in dominant fashion.

White won the first main event of the night by more than 13 seconds, finishing the 50-lap race around the 1/4-mile oval in 15 minutes, 37.411 seconds. The second race was slower and much tighter, but White still managed to outgun the field by nearly seven seconds to complete a season that saw him outside of the winner’s circle just once.

White won four of five races, finishing third in his only other outing to win his second-straight late models championship. Last season he won four of six races to win the title. Nick Joanides finished second in the division, 16 points back after recording two seconds and two thirds in five races.

Skyler Meisenbach used a consistent season to take home the bandoleros division season title, finishing second in two of Saturday’s three main events. Meisenbach recorded just one win this season but never finished below third in nine races to win the championship by just two points.

Owen Romzek did his best to unseat Meisenbach at the top, winning two of the night’s three main events, but a third place finish in the only other outing left him just short in the points. Daegen Campbell finished in a close third place in the division.

Jeff Prieur won his second straight factory stocks race, and his sixth this season, to maintain his healthy lead on the division.

Jeremy Orozco edged Tyler Savage and Gavin Bucy in the street stocks main event, winning the 30-lap race by half a second. It’s the second straight race the three drivers have finished in that order, with Savage holding a comfortable lead in the division on the other two, not finishing below second in six races this season.

Aiden McCorkle and Brooklyn Caley won the 206 karts main events on the evening and Rowdy Ladd and Brody Wake won the animal karts main events.

Races will return to the track on March 9, with pony stocks and karts joining factory and street stocks main events. Just four races remain in the season, wtih the final three divisions holding their title races in April.
