North Charleston police arrest suspect in Hunters Ridge Lane homicide

Authorities have arrested a Charleston man suspected to shooting another man to death in North Charleston earlier this month.

Jaquez Gariel Brown, a 21-year-old resident of Ashley Avenue, was taken into custody by North Charleston police and U.S. Marshals on Thursday, police said.

Brown faces one count each of murder and possessionn of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, police said.

Officers were called to Hunters Ridge Lane off Ashley Phosphate Road about 2 p.m. Oct. 1, where a male victim was found on the ground, police said.

The victim was identified as Al-Jaami Asa Sweet, 40, of North Charleston, the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office said.
