No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 8 TCU to face off for Big 12 lead

November 9, 2017

No. 8 TCU (8-1, 5-1 Big 12, CFP No. 6) at No. 5 Oklahoma (8-1, 5-1, CFP No. 5), Saturday, 8 p.m. ET (Fox).

Line: Oklahoma by 6½.

Series record: Oklahoma leads 11-5

The winner will take sole possession of the Big 12 lead and gain both an inside track to the Big 12 title game and a stronger position in the race for a spot in the College Football playoff. The loser still has a chance to reach the Big 12 title game.

Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield vs. TCU pass rush. Mayfield’s magician-like moves under pressure take his game to another level. TCU DE Ben Banogu and linebacker Mat Boesen rank second and fourth in the Big 12 in sacks.

TCU: QB Kenny Hill is a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award for the nation’s outstanding quarterback and a finalist for the Unitas Award, which honors the nation’s top senior or fourth-year quarterback. He has a chance to gain consideration for bigger awards if he pulls out a win and sprinkles in some big plays. He is a dual threat who has become much more efficient as a passer this season.

Oklahoma: WR Marquise Brown is coming off a school-record 265-yard performance Saturday against Oklahoma State. The Sooners say he’s faster than Dede Westbrook, last year’s Biletnikoff Award winner who ran a 4.34-second 40-yard dash at Oklahoma’s Pro Day.

The five games between the schools since TCU joined the Big 12 have been decided by a combined 21 points, but Oklahoma has won four of them. ... Mayfield suffered a concussion two years ago against TCU in Norman, and the Sooners held on for a 30-29 win. ... Oklahoma won last year’s game 52-46.
