Season ends for Mustangs
NEEDLES — Mustang varsity baseball’s run at a state playoff appearance ended Friday, 14-8 at the hands of the Lake Mead Eagles. The Eagles had handed Needles a 12-8 loss on Thursday, the first day of the NIAA 2A South League tournament held on Jack Hutcherson Field, the Mustangs’ home diamond on the Needles High School campus.
Dillon Horn and Robert Hancock took the mound for the home team and, according to Coach Ken Parker, gave his team exactly what they needed. Defense faltered, with 11 errors committed over the course of the game proving to costly to recover from despite a glimmer of hope in the sixth inning.
“We just didn’t back up our pitchers,” Parker lamented. “But we’ll be back next year.”
