Bonanza woman accused of assaulting young boys
A Bonanza woman has been charged with felony assault after allegedly attacking two young boys earlier this year.
Mayra Aracelli Mares, 27, was arrested Wednesday for an incident occurring July 2, 2016.
According to an indictment filed Oct. 6, the victims, ages 5 and 6, were allegedly injured during an assault by Mares, though further details of the event were unavailable in court records. Mares was described as a relative of the victims.
She appeared in court Friday on two counts each of third-degree assault and first-degree criminal mistreatment. Attorney Sammy Sanchez was appointed to represent Mares and her next scheduled court date is Dec. 12 before Judge Dan Bunch.
If found guilty, Mares faces up to five years in prison on the highest count. She was released Monday with orders to have no contact with the victims.
