Nebraska gas tax increasing 1.6 cents
LINCOLN - Nebraska’s state gas tax will increase, but you may not notice it given the current low price of fuel.
State Tax Commissioner Tony Fulton tells News Talk WJAG the gas tax increase stems from a bill the legislature passed to give funding for road projects.
“The increase occurred over the course of a number of years. I believe this is the final year of the result of LB 610. 1.5 cents of the 1.6 cent increase is attributable to LB 610.”
Fulton says the new rate is 29.6 cents a gallon that went into effect Tuesday.
Nebraska’s fuel price average currently sits at $2.09 a gallon, 30 cents less than a year ago.
