Graduation rate at teen moms school above national average
WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) — A Maine school for teenage mothers reports a graduation rate nearly double the average for such teens.
Maine Public reports that nine students are currently attending the Sharon Abrams Teen Parent School in Waterville.
The school has an 83 percent graduation rate, which is more than double the national average for teen mothers. Over half its graduates earn a college degree, compared to just two percent on average nationally.
The school provides on-campus daycare, diapers and wipes to students. Staff members also help students find cribs or even apartments.
Maine has other schools for teen parents in Camden and Bangor.
