Nash County detention officer fired, charged with giving cellphones to inmates

A Nash County detention officer was arrested Tuesday after allegedly giving cellphones to several inmates.

The Nash County Sheriff’s Office said they began investigating Quintin Cardel Higgs, 26, in April, about six months after he was hired as a detention officer at the Nash County Detention Center.

Authorities said Higgs smuggled cellphones into the facility with the intent to give them to at least eight inmates.

Deputies said Higgs was fired from his job and charged with eight counts of felony giving a cellphone or electronic device to an inmate.

Higgs was being held at a detention center in a neighboring county under $175,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
