Cleveland landlord robbed at gunpoint by masked men shortly after collecting rent

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Three armed and masked men robbed a 72-year-old landlord shortly after he collected rent, police reports say.

The robbery happened about noon Tuesday in the backyard of the home the landlord owns in the 3100 block of East 116th Street, between Soika and Imperial avenues.

The man told police he collected $500 in rent from one of his tenants and went into the backyard.

The three robbers walked from a vacant home and approached the landlord, police reports say.

One robber put a gun to the man’s head, while the others rummaged through the man’s pockets, police reports say. The group stole the rent money, another $200, credit cards and his keys, according to police reports.

The trio ran away. Police searched the area but did not find the robbers. No arrests have been made in the case.

The man told police he believed that the robbers knew he had just collected rent and would have the cash on him.
