NEW MILFORD — Larry Marsicano, the former executive director of the Candlewood Lake Authority, was presented an award for Excellence in Environmental Stewardship by the Connecticut Outdoor and Environmental Education Association (COEEA) for his work on Candlewood.

The award, given to those who engage and motivate the public to protect the environment, celebrated Marsicano’s research of the lake and his accomplishments in his 14 years with the authority.

Marsicano’s most recent research analyzed how the lake has changed using 28 years of water-quality data and was published in the Journal of Lake and Reservoir Management. He also helped create Project CLEAR, a program that let high school students perform research on the lake, and the annual Candlewood Lake Clean-up, COEEA said in a release.

Marsicano now works for Aquatic Ecosystem Research. The COEEA award ceremony was held at Yale University during the organization’s annual conference on March 22.
