Lowell High Boys Win Division 1 Relay

BRAINTREE -- The Lowell High boys captured the MSTCA Division 1 Relay championship with 55 points.

Ben Kyeremeh led the discus team to first place with a school-record throw of 168 feet, 8 inches, breaking the record held by Justin Robinson. Kevin Essien (120-3) and Luis Cadime (115-2) rounded out the team. The team also broke a school record with a total distance of 404-2.

The triple jump team of David Ajama (45-1), Richmond Kwaateng (43-4.5) and Rasheed Evans (41-2.25) also took first place and set a school record with a combined distance of 129-7.5.

Another first place team consisted of Kwaateng (22-9), Ajama (21-3.5) and Andrews Bonsu (20-8.5) in the long jump relay. This also broke a school record with a distance of 64-8.75.

The shuttle hurdle relay ran a time of 1:04.25 to take second. The team consisted of Darin Div (15.8), Chigga Adigwe (15.4), Mike Owusu (15.6) and Matt Griffith (17.2).

Another second place team was Franco Recto, Kwaateng, Div and Andrews Bonsu, who combined for a time of 42.72 in the 4x100m relay.

The shot put team of Kyeremeh (50-9.5), Luis Cadime (40-9.5) and Kevin Essien (26-10.5) took fourth in 122-5. The 4x1600 team of Jadiel Pinales (4:31), Joeben Jacobs (4:40), Ricky Thyne (4:37) and Kelvin Santana (4:34) was fifth in 18:30.06. The high jump team of Ajama (6-4), Izaiah Strum (5-3) and Essau Austin (5-3) tied for fifth with a total of 17-10.

The 4x800 relay of Pinales (2:02), Jacobs (2:07), David Vandi (2:09) and Santana (2:10) placed sixth in 8:29.68.

Finally, the 4x200 team also took sixth. The team consisted of Bonsu (22.0), Franco Recto (23.6), Div (23.7) and Emmanuel Wahpo (24.5) in 1:33.71.

PEMBROKE -- The Dracut boys placed 12th, while the Middie girls were 24th at the MSTCA Division 3 Relay meet Saturday

On the boys side, DJ Gagnon, Will Peters and Luke Davey combined to win the shot put (132-6.25) by more than 10 feet. The discus team of Peters, Gagnon and Connor Slattery took fourth (320-3).

The 4x200 squad took sixth in 1:34.99 thanks to Dom Silverstro, Tyler Pearce, Gilbert Ruiz and Jovan Aigbekaen.

On the girls side, the discus team of Gabbie Brown, Jacinta Karanja and Kat Morissette was fourth (239-2). The shot put team of Brown, Julianna DeCastro and Karanja took sixth (83-0.5).


Groton-Dunstable swept a doubleheader over North Middlesex in Groton.

In the opener, the Crusaders (5-2) banged out 14 hits.

Isacc Zhang (2-for-2, 2 runs, 4 RBI), Joe O’Malley (3-for-5, 2 RBI) and Kasey Griffith (2-for-3) swung hot bats.

Riley Curran picked up the win in relief, striking out 7 over 3.2 innings.

For North Middlesex, Pat Aubuchon went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Dan Abbott went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

In the second game, Zhang (4 K’s in 4 innings) and Will Bordes (7 K’s in 3 innings) combined on a two-hit shutout.

Griffith went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI to pace G-D.

Bordes blasted a bases-clearing triple.

Brendan Ferrari went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
