Southern California deputy injured after struggle for gun
VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a Southern California sheriff’s deputy was injured as she struggled with a man who grabbed her gun in a confrontation recorded on video.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says the gun went off during the struggle Wednesday in Victorville, but the deputy was not shot.
The San Bernardino Sun reports that when deputies descended on the neighborhood, they shot the man as he held the deputy’s gun. His condition wasn’t immediately known. Officials say the deputy’s injuries are not life-threatening.
Cellphone video aired by KABC-TV shows the deputy and the man fighting on the ground. During the scuffle two gunshots are heard, then the deputy is seen running away. The man stands up and fires at her twice.
Officials didn’t say what prompted the confrontation.
