Badgers football notebook: Troy Fumagalli semifinalist for John Mackey Award, finalist for Burlsworth Trophy

November 14, 2017 GMT

University of Wisconsin tight end Troy Fumagalli earned recognition for two awards Tuesday.

The senior was named one of eight semifinalists for the John Mackey Award, given annually to the nation’s top tight end, along with being among four finalists for the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to college football’s top player who began his career as a walk-on.

The other three finalists for the Burlsworth Trophy are Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, Washington State quarterback Luke Falk and Memphis wide receiver Anthony Miller. Mayfield won the award in 2015 and 2016.

Fumagalli leads the Badgers with 33 catches and has totaled 422 yards and three touchdowns in nine games this season.

Biadasz, Dixon practice

Center Tyler Biadasz and safety D’Cota Dixon both practiced Tuesday.

Biadasz left last week’s game against Iowa after injuring his left leg in the second quarter, while Dixon’s still battling a right leg injury. Both entered the week questionable to play when the Badgers host Michigan on Saturday.

UW offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph noted that Biadasz did just a little bit of work Tuesday, and it’s still up in the air whether or not the redshirt freshman will play this weekend.
