Ohio prosecutor says father abused infant daughter because he wanted boy

MASON, Ohio — A chiropractor has been jailed after investigators say he abused his infant daughter, causing serious injuries, including to the brain, according to reports.

Warren County Prosecutor David P. Fornshell tells WKRC Channel 28 that Jason Bittner, 33, that details in the case are shocking, saying Bittner was disappointed his 3-month-old daughter wasn’t a boy and that she was “fussy.”

“The child had over 28 rib fractures of varying ages, meaning they had happened at different times,” Fornshell tells WLWT Channel 5.

WLWT reports the child was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in February. Doctors were told the injuries were accidental.

Her injuries were “inconsistent with an explanation that this was some type of accident,” Fornshell tells Fox 19.

The child has been moved from the hospital’s intensive care unit, Fox 19 reports.

Fornshell tells WLWT that Bittner “didn’t deal real well with newborns, in terms of them being ‘fussy,’ as newborns are.”

Bittner also apparently wanted a boy. Bittner and his wife have two children, both girls, according to reports.

“We know that he was somewhat resentful that his second child was actually a baby girl, he was wanting it to be a boy,” Fornshell says.

Bittner was arrested last week and is scheduled to be arraigned today, reports say. He is facing two counts of child endangering and one count of felonious assault.

Mason, Ohio, is located just northeast of Cincinnati.
