MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Authorities in West Virginia say a woman has been killed by a tree that fell onto her home.

Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Chief Jason Christopher tells news outlets the uprooted tree fell onto the home early Monday east of Morgantown.

He says the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity wasn’t immediately released.

Christopher says weather likely contributed to the accident. He says high winds occurred during the night and the ground was saturated from heavy rains.
