Former Harnett sheriff candidate injured in crash
The N.C. Highway Patrol was investigating a wreck Wednesday afternoon that injured a former candidate for Harnett County sheriff, according to a witness and social media reports.
According to the Fayetteville Observer, the crash was reported at 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Old Coats Road and Neill’s Creek Road and involved a pickup truck and a commercial truck.
Harry Ennis, who ran for sheriff last year, was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital, according to multiple social media posts including the still active Facebook page Harry Ennis for Sheriff.
The driver of the pickup was pinned in the truck and had to be cut out by emergency workers, according to a witness.
The driver was taken to a hospital by a helicopter.
Ennis, who lives in Buies Creek, served in the state Highway Patrol for 32 years, according to his campaign website.
