2nd man who escaped Alabama jail captured
JASPER, Ala. (AP) — Sheriff’s deputies in Alabama have captured a second inmate who escaped from a work release center last week.
The Alabama Department of Corrections said in a news release Monday morning that Walker County deputies caught 39-year-old Jacob Larry Burnett Saturday night while responding to a report of a person breaking into a vehicle near Nauvoo.
Burnett and 39-year-old Mark Stephen Araujo Jr. escaped from a work released center in Talladega County Oct. 23. Araujo was captured the next day in Marshall County.
Burnett had been sentenced to 18 months in July for third-degree burglary in Shelby County. Araujo is serving a 15-year sentence for a 2016 first-degree property theft conviction in Walker County.
Corrections officials say both men will now be charged with escape.
