Memorial held for Alabama man killed by police
MADISON, Ala. (AP) — Relatives and friends of a black man who was shot to death by police in Alabama are holding a memorial service in his honor.
Dozens of people gathered at Huntsville’s civic center for the ceremony held Tuesday for 39-year-old Dana Fletcher, and others watched online.
A statement read on behalf of the Fletcher family says the shooting devastated his relatives. It says they want the “unfiltered truth” about his death.
Madison police shot Fletcher to death on Oct. 27 while he was just feet from his wife, Cherelle Fletcher, and their young daughter.
Authorities released a photo showing Fletcher with a gun in his hand, but his widow maintains he was unarmed.
Prosecutors say no charges are planned against the officers, and authorities refuse to release video of the killing.
