Brunswick wins FAA swimming title
Brunswick School swam away with the FAA championship at the league finals Saturday at Hopkins School in New Haven.
The Bruins amassed 399 team points, finishing ahead of runner-up Hopkins by 102 points (297). Hamden Hall was third (231) in the team standings.
With the FAA format allowing two relays and three individual competitors in event, the Bruins’ depth made the difference in the championship meet.
The meet began with the 200 medley relay, with Brunswick placing second in the A final and winning the B final.
The Bruins proceeded to win the 200-yard freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle.
In the 200 freestyle, Cole Pierce won the event, with teammates Alex Morgan was placing fourth and Felipe Leao registering a sixth-place finish
Marcus Hodgson won the 200 individual medley, while Lucas Pierce was second and Jack Moore finished fourth for the Bruins.
The 50-yard freestyle saw the Bruins post a 1-3-4 finish. Christian Farricker won the event, while teammates Ivey Gehring and Jake Charney, placed third and fourth, respectively.
Brunswick scored big in the 100 butterfly, with Keegan Drew and Jack Moore finished second and third, respectively. Nico Apostolides placed fifth for the Bruins in the event.
Gehring, Luke Apostolides, and Charney scored more team points for the Bruins, placing fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 100 freestyle.
In the 500 freestyle, Michael O’Malley took second and Leao posted a third-place finish.
Brunswick touched the wall first in the finals of the A and B races in the 200 freestyle relays, while padding its advantage in the team standings.
The 100 backstroke saw Lucas Hodgson came back to win the event for the Bruins. Tallying points in the event for the Bruins were Brunswick were JP Ohl (fifth place) and Pierce (sixth place).
In the last individual event of the FAA Championships — the 100 breaststroke — Brunswick’s Jackson Walker and Gavin Molloy finished second and third, respectively, while Ned Camel placed fifth. The meet concluded with Brunswick winning th 400 freestyle relay.
