Pamela K. Knisley, 69, of Kankakee, passed away Sunday (March 3, 2019) at her home.
She was born May 8, 1949, in Kankakee, the daughter of William and Jean (Heine) Walters. Pamela married Buryl “Buck” Knisley on May 30, 1996, in St. Anne.
Pamela was a police officer for the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department. She was one of the first female police officers with the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department.
She also was a deputy coroner for Kankakee County.
Pamela was an avid reader and loved to shop. She enjoyed all sports and activities in which her children and grandchildren participated. Pamela loved her dogs. She will always be remembered for her strong personality and huge heart.
She was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving are her husband, Buck Knisley, of Kankakee; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Heather and Ray Pasel, of Kankakee, Stephanie and Curt Barta, of Virginia, and Traci and Todd Wagner, of Grant Park; five grandchildren, Bryce Gill, Kalen Gill, Cooper Barta, Conner Barta and Camden Wagner; one sister and brother-in-law, Sherree and Bob Gessner, of Kankakee; best friends, Nancy Sullivan and Lois Powell; brother-in-law, Robert and Jill Knisley; sister-in-law, Shirley and Kenneth Miedema; and her other family at the Kankakee County Sherriff’s Department.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one aunt and uncle, Theresa and James Bourassa; and two brothers-in-law, Elwood and Anna Marie Miedema and Kenneth Miedema.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Thursday, March 7, until the 6 p.m. funeral service at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. The Rev. John Peeters will officiate the service. A chapel service, with military rites, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 8, in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Kankakee.
Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family or Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
