New Hampshire Hospital sending newborns home with a box
NORTH CONWAY, N.H. -
A New Hampshire hospital is the latest to send newborns home, with a box, encouraging safe sleeping habits.
It’s happening at the birthing center at Memorial Hospital in North Conway.
The boxes include firm mattresses designed for babies up to eight months old.
They’re meant to help reduce S.I.D.S.; sudden infant death syndrome.
They are modeled on a successful baby box initiative in Finland that began in the 1930′s, that has lowered that country’s infant mortality rate.
