McKenna Powers Lowell Catholic to Win

Patrick McKenna notched 9 kills and 6 blocks while leading Lowell Catholic past Salem, 3-0, in a boys volleyball match.

Elsewhere, Central Catholic downed St. John’s Prep, 3-1.

LOWELL CATHOLIC 3, SALEM 0 — Caleb Scott tallied 15 kills while powering the Crusaders past Salem, 25-19, 25-13, 25-17.

Luke McFadyen set the offense in motion with 26 assists.

CENTRAL CATHOLIC 3, ST. JOHN’S PREP 1 — Kevin Stevenson led the Raiders to the non-league victory with 19 kills and 4 blocks.

Scores were 22-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-16. Also starring for the Raiders were Jack Roderick with 38 assists, Alex Nadeau with 31 digs, John Day with 9 service points and Dan Roberts with 3 aces.


LOWELL 3, METHUEN 1 — The Red Raiders celebrated their Senior Night with a 25-18, 21-25, 26-24, 28-25 victory.

Playing well for Lowell were seniors Alex Chheoung, Logan Phoung, Bruce Xayvechy, Carlos Castellano, Alex Cintron and Jonas Mwaura. Also adding to the win for Lowell (13-4) were senior captains Damian Ortiz and Poe Reh.

CHELMSFORD 3, BILLERICA 2 — Chelmsford qualified for the state tournament for the 13th straight season with a tough MVC victory.

Levi Cass compiled 18 kills, 16 digs, 2 aces, 2 assists and 3 blocks. Liam McGinty added 17 kills, 3 blocks and 3 digs. Also shining for CHS were Evan Wang (26 digs), Owen Rega (8 digs, 3 aces), and Ian Van Haren (41 assists, 10 digs, 3 kills).

For Billerica, Ankeet Patel carried the offense with 18 kills. Tim Smilgis tallied 6 kills, and Ankit Amonkar ran the offense, finishing with 30 assists.
