Cantu announces Hidalgo County Precinct 2 re-election bid

November 28, 2017

Hidalgo County Precinct 2 Commissioner Eddie Cantu announced Tuesday morning he will run for re-election, quieting rumors that he was going to run for county judge. Ramon Garcia, the current judge, is expected to retire next year.

Cantu’s announcement came shortly before Tuesday’s commissioner’s meeting.

McAllen commissioner Richard Cortez filed to run for county judge earlier this month. Former county judge Eloy Pulido has also announced his intent to run for the county’s top elected position.

The race for county judge has also drawn a Republican contender, Jane Cross, who is also vying for the position.

The story will be updated.
