Veterans Memorial Park renovation moves ahead for fall re-open
Veterans Memorial Park: The multi-million-dollar renovation of this 40-year-old park continues this spring with an eye on an early November opening around Veterans Day. The plan is for a graded mount to create an amphitheater surrounded by raised monoliths that had been a screened and hidden — but major part — of the park since the 1977 commemoration.
Work began in August with excavators delicately digging around ornate monoliths etched with names of Stamford veterans who died in action. Now, with the monoliths out of the way and a statue of Abraham Lincoln covered in black trash bags, the stage appears set for mound building.
