Thousands attend rally in Charleston
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Supporters of women’s rights and social justice gathered in Charleston in solidarity with others following the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail (http://bit.ly/2iRBmDZ ) reports the rally at the state Capitol on Saturday was in conjunction with the Women’s March on Washington, D.C., where hundreds of thousands had gathered.
Speakers included community organizers and religious leaders, who encouraged more women and minorities to run for local and county-level offices. They also said the focus should not just be on the next presidential election in 2020, but on the 2018 mid-term election.
Many of the thousands of attendees said they had wanted to attend the march in Washington but couldn’t afford the travel or the time away from their families.
