Harvest Green Farmers Market returns
After a year-long hiatus, the weekly farmers market in Harvest Green returns with a grand opening celebration 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 8.
The free festivities will take place near the community’s Village Farm, 8939 Harlem Road. Shoppers can purchase fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, as well as fresh eggs, meats and cheese from ethical handlers. Honey, preserved foods, flowers, plants and gifts — all locally sourced — will also be featured. The first 200 guests will receive a free Harvest Green bag. Live music rounds out the event.
Everything sold at the market is either grown by or made by the seller, said Scott Snodgrass, co-owner of Agmenity, which manages the Harvest Green Village Farm. Vendors must meet rigorous standards for quality, purity and locality
“The Harvest Green Farmers Market is a producer-only market, meaning every vendor is a small business owner and intimately involved in their craft,” Snodgrass said. “By attending the market to regularly make food purchases, you not only support sustainable food production but also local economies. We’re so excited to bring yet another interaction with agriculture to life for Harvest Green residents and the greater Fort Bend community.”
Harvest Green hosted its first farmer market in January 2017. Construction in and around the Village Farm caused a partial closure eight months later, with the community’s Veggie Wagon continuing to sell the farm’s vegetables and herbs as the only vendor.
Among the enhancements were the addition of permanent restroom facilities, which will allow for the increase in the number of participating vendors; a gazebo; and a playground. The playscape features swings, tire steps and a vine maze. A new dog park is under construction.
The Harvest Green Farmers Market is open rain or shine, year-round on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Visit https://www.hgvillagefarmblog.com/about-the-market for more information.
