MOSCOW (AP) — Before Ukraine's Security Service shocked the world by saying it had faked the death of exiled Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko in Kiev on Tuesday evening, the news of his now-fabricated demise highlighted the dangers of working as a journalist in Russia.

Dozens of Russian journalists have been killed or brutally beaten in recent years, in clear retribution for their work. In most cases, their attackers walked free.
