ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent cornerback Montrel Meander and placed cornerback Leon Hall on injured reserve.
Meander had been on the practice squad in Cleveland before signing with the Raiders on Friday. He was an undrafted free agent out of Grambling, where he had two interceptions his senior season.
Hall played 10 games this season, compiling 25 tackles and three passes defensed.
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Two defensive captains have been cut, a respected veteran retired and the team's No. 1 receiver was traded away.
The losses for the Oakland Raiders have been mounting on and off the field in recent weeks as a season that began with optimism has fallen apart at the midway point.
After four straight losses, including a blowout by Bay Area rival San Francisco, have left the Raiders (1-7) tied for the worst record in the NFL, it's time to start looking to the future.
NEW YORK (AP) — Pittsburgh's T.J. Watt has been fined $20,054 by the NFL for his hit on Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan, and the Steelers linebacker says he will appeal it.
Watt rolled into the right leg of Ryan during the Steelers' 41-17 victory last Sunday and was called for roughing the passer. Watt, who had three sacks and was named the AFC defensive player of the week, said earlier in the week that he pulled his hands off the quarterback and that can be seen in the film.

NAPA, Calif. (AP) — As he squares off against first-round draft pick Kolton Miller almost daily in training camp, Oakland Raiders rookie defensive end Arden Key rarely uses the same move twice.
On one play, Key takes a jab-step inside then spins around to Miller's outside shoulder and speeds past the big left tackle. A few moments later, Key bull-rushes his way between Miller and another offensive lineman with little resistance.
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders have signed third-round tackle Brandon Parker and fourth-round cornerback Nick Nelson to rookie contracts.
The moves announced Monday leave only third-round defensive end Arden Key unsigned among the Raiders' nine draft picks.
Parker was selected 65th overall after playing four seasons at North Carolina A&T. He started all 48 games of his career at left tackle and was a three-time FCS All-American.
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders have signed first-round draft pick Kolton Miller to a rookie contract.
The deal announced Friday gives the Raiders six of their nine draft picks under contract.
The Raiders traded down five spots to select Miller 15th overall last month to be their left tackle of the future.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU has sought to bolster its offensive and defensive lines in the early signing period.
The Tigers' top-rated recruit to sign on Wednesday is Travez Moore, a 6-foot-6, 250-pound edge pass rusher who is from Bastrop and played most recently at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi.
Orgeron says the arrival of Moore, rated among the best nationally at his position, is important in light of outside linebacker Arden Key's anticipated early entry in the NFL draft.

Series record: Florida leads 32-28-3.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
Florida's spot atop the league's Eastern Division. LSU is looking to bounce back from a stunning home loss to Troy and avoid the program's second 0-2 start in league play in the last four years.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU's top pass rusher, Arden Key, has been cleared to come back from shoulder surgery and play Saturday at Mississippi State.
"We're going to play him as much as we can. We'll see during the week how much he can do," Orgeron said Monday. "Obviously we're fired up to have Arden Key back."
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron says he does not expect Tigers single-season sack record holder Arden Key to play in the opener against BYU.
Key, an outside linebacker who had 12 sacks last season, is rehabilitating from offseason shoulder surgery.
Orgeron stressed that he won't rule Key out against BYU in Houston on Sept. 2 and says Key's recovery is "ahead of schedule."
However, Orgeron has maintained since camp opened that Key might have to miss the first game or two of the season.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron says Arden Key, who was the Tigers' top pass-rusher last season, will return from indefinite personal leave to the team Monday.
Orgeron also says Key recently had shoulder surgery, adding that "everything went as planned."
Key, a junior who has started his first two seasons, set LSU's single-season record for sacks last season with 12 and was named first-team All-SEC.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU head coach Ed Orgeron says Tigers defensive end and sack leader Arden Key is taking a leave of absence from the football program for unspecified personal reasons.
Orgeron says the decision was made in consultation with the coaching staff and Key's family.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU defensive end Arden Key doesn't necessarily do himself any favors with his unfiltered expressions of self-confidence.
The eyebrow-raising sack total the 6-foot-6, 240-pound sophomore has boldly projected for himself provides opposing offensive linemen, blocking tight ends and chipping running backs no shortage of motivation to slam shut every opening Key could possibly find to the quarterback.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
LSU is trying to remain in SEC West contention while Auburn is hoping to turn the season around. Both coaches, LSU's Les Miles and Auburn's Gus Malzahn, have come under fire from fans and a win here would take some of the heat off — for now, at least.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Big plays highlighted the weekly selection of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's Louisiana college football players of the week.
Elijah McGuire of Louisiana-Lafayette had a 68-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter of the Cajuns 28-23 win over South Alabama. He rushed for 223 yards in the game and earned offensive player of the week.
