CHICAGO (AP) — Outfielder Brandon Guyer and the Chicago White Sox have finalized their minor league contract.
If added to the 40-man roster, he would get a one-year deal paying $1.6 million while in the major leagues and $150,000 while in the minors.
Guyer, who debuted with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011, has a .250 career batting average. He hit .266 for Tampa Bay and Cleveland in 2016 but has struggled the past two years, batting .206 in 103 games for the Indians last season.
CHICAGO (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says outfielder Brandon Guyer has agreed to a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox.
The person spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been completed.
Guyer, who debuted with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011, has a .250 career batting average. He hit a combined .266 for Tampa Bay and Cleveland in 2016 but has struggled the past two years, batting .206 in 103 games for the Indians last season.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Indians have some tough decisions to make this offseason. The one on Carlos Carrasco was simple.
Cleveland picked up its $9.75 million contract option for next season on the right-hander, who has developed into one of the AL's most consistent and dominating pitchers over the past few years.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians manager Terry Francona found a simple way to sum up his team's tenuous state this October.
And he channeled Yogi Berra to do it.
"As long as we're still breathing, we're still breathing," Francona said before Monday's critical Game 3 against the Houston Astros. "We just don't have a lot of margin for error."
CHICAGO (AP) — Corey Kluber spread the credit for his first 20-win season, and admitted it's "a nice, round number."
Kluber struck out 11 in seven scoreless innings and won his 20th, and Brandon Guyer hit a go-ahead solo homer in the seventh inning as the Cleveland Indians shut out the Chicago White Sox 4-0 on Monday night.
TORONTO (AP) — Toronto first baseman Justin Smoak figured teammate Randal Grichuk never saw it coming.
Grichuk was injured in a bizarre collision with a security guard's chair, and replacement Tesocar Hernandez hit a three-run homer as the Blue Jays beat the Cleveland Indians 6-2 on Sunday.
The Indians' magic number to lock up their third straight AL Central title stayed at five.
TORONTO (AP) — Blue Jays right fielder Randal Grichuk is being checked for a possible concussion after slamming face-first into a security guard's chair while chasing a foul ball.
Grichuk had a swollen mark across his face as he left Sunday's game in Toronto against Cleveland. He was injured while catching Brandon Guyer's fly in the fourth inning.
DETROIT (AP) — When Francisco Lindor hits a home run, he tries to avoid thinking too much about adding another one.
"I try to focus on either hitting the ball the other way or hitting back up the middle, or doing something to kind of control myself," the Cleveland shortstop said. "When I try to hit home runs, they don't go out. I wish they did."
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Former Baltimore Orioles manager Earl Weaver said the key to winning is "pitching, fundamentals and three-run homers."
Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona can go one better: grand slams.
Yan Gomes hit a grand slam in the sixth inning and the Indians rallied to beat the Kansas City Royals 6-4 on Tuesday night.
The Indians lead the American League with eight grand slams and it was their second in two nights. Francisco Lindor hit one Monday.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians might need to get along without reliever Andrew Miller for a bit.
Miller left Wednesday night's 4-1 win over the Chicago Cubs because of a tight left hamstring. He was set for an MRI on Thursday, and manager Terry Francona said the lefty had the same injury while pitching for Baltimore in 2014.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Andrew Miller wasn't among the Cleveland Indians chasing Roberto Perez around the infield, flinging water and white powder to celebrate a wild win over an American League rival.
The Indians relief ace — a pivotal piece during Cleveland's run to the World Series last season — may miss a few more big moments this season, too.
CHICAGO (AP) — Brandon Guyer dreamed of coming through in a big spot and driving in the winning run. He just never envisioned a scenario quite like what played out Saturday night.
The pinch-hitter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth inning for the go-ahead run and the Cleveland Indians won their ninth straight game, beating the Chicago White Sox 5-4.

Indians starter Corey Kluber struck out 12. The AL Central leaders sent the White Sox to their 14th loss in 15 games.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Conor Gillaspie celebrated his 30th birthday by delivering a big hit for the San Francisco Giants.
Gillaspie started the winning rally in the 10th inning with a pinch-hit double and Eduardo Nunez ended it with an RBI single that helped the Giants snap a three-game losing streak by beating the Cleveland Indians 2-1 on Tuesday night.
"I love to get them any time I can," Gillaspie said. "You have to be grateful when you get hits, especially off the bench."
CLEVELAND (AP) — Outfielder Brandon Guyer has agreed to a $5 million, two-year contract with the Cleveland Indians.
Guyer gets $2 million this year and $2.75 million in 2018, and Cleveland has a $3 million option for 2019 with a $250,000 buyout.
Guyer was acquired from Tampa Bay on Aug. 1 and he provided offensive punch and defensive depth down the stretch as the Indians won the AL Central and made the World Series for the first time since 1997.

CHICAGO (AP) — Indians manager Terry Francona barely batted an eye before deciding to send slugger Carlos Santana into left field.
The decision wasn't hard.
"We didn't show up to keep the game close," Francona said before Game 3 of the World Series. "We're trying to win."
Despite Santana having minimal experience in left, Francona has him out there Friday night as the Indians and Cubs play the first Series game at Wrigley Field since 1945.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Brandon Guyer was playing for a last-place team until a trade Aug. 1.
On Tuesday night, his first career game-ending hit moved his Cleveland Indians closer to their first AL Central title in nearly a decade.
Guyer singled in a run with two outs in the ninth inning, lifting the Indians over the Kansas City Royals 2-1 to reduce Cleveland's magic number for the division to six.
Cleveland leads Detroit by seven games and hasn't won the Central since 2007.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The AL Central-leading Cleveland Indians acquired outfielder Brandon Guyer from Tampa Bay for two minor leaguers on Monday.
Cleveland sent outfielder Nathan Lukes and right-hander Jhonleider Salinas to Tampa Bay.
Guyer, a right-handed hitter, is batting .241 with seven home runs and 18 RBIs in 63 games. He has been hit by a pitch 23 times, a major league high, and is batting .344 (22 for 64) with four homers against left-handers.
