BEIJING (AP) — About the only way the U.S. men’s curling team can top its entrance at the Beijing Olympics is by winning another gold medal.
Skip John Shuster carried the American flag into the Bird’s Nest for the opening ceremony along with speedskater Brittany Bowe on Friday night.
BEIJING (AP) — Brittany Bowe is having quite an Olympics — before she even hit the ice.
First, she claimed another speedskating race in Beijing — or, more appropriately, reclaimed it — when a third spot opened up for the Americans in the 500 meters.
Brittany Bowe didn't want to go to her third and likely final Olympics without Erin Jackson.
So after Jackson slipped and didn't qualify in the 500 meters at the U.S. speedskating trials in Milwaukee — a stunning result for the world's top-ranked skater in the event — Bowe knew what she wanted to do.
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Brittany Bowe of the United States won the women’s 1,500 meters at the World Cup speedskating meet in Canada, where the American men won the team pursuit on Sunday.
Bowe skated the distance in 1 minute, 52.05 seconds, edging Nana Takagi of Japan, who earned silver in 1:52.06 at the Calgary Olympic Oval.
TOMASZOW MAZOWIECKI, Poland (AP) — One day after becoming the first Black American woman to win a World Cup speedskating race, Erin Jackson made it two in a row Saturday.
The 29-year-old from Ocala, Florida, won the second 500-meter race at the season-opening meet in Poland, breaking her 24-hour-old track record with a time of 37.555 seconds.
