"Soul food is the true food of African Americans," she writes.
FORT MADISON, Iowa (AP) — Cooking long has been a staple of Elliott Test Kitchen, where students can go after school for a good meal and academic support. So when the time came to organize a fundraiser for its operations, a cookbook was a natural choice.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Despite the title — "Chasing the Gator: Isaac Toups and the New Cajun Cooking" — there are no alligator entries in the New Orleans chef's new cookbook unless you count the photo of Toups' back and the alligator tattoo emblazoned across it. But there is an array of dishes that exemplify the Cajun cooking that Toups grew up on in south Louisiana as well as the special flair he brings to them and to life in general.

Stamm was not a chef by trade she was a journalist. Mexican hot chocolate is a beloved beverage made from chocolate (yup, got it) and often cinnamon and another spice or two to bring up the heat. The combination of spicy and chocolate just plain works, and I wanted to see how it would translate into another beloved treat, the good old American brownie.
LONDON (AP) — Meghan Markle was joined by her mother Thursday to launch a cookbook aimed at raising money for the victims of London's Grenfell Tower fire.
The former actress from the United States, who married Prince Harry and is now the Duchess of Sussex, hosted the reception at Kensington Palace beside her mother, Doria Ragland, to support the cookbook titled "Together."
The book celebrates the power of cooking to strengthen communities and bring people together.
LONDON (AP) — The Duchess of Sussex is giving her backing to a cookbook from a community kitchen set up in the aftermath of London's deadly Grenfell Tower fire.
The former Meghan Markle has written a foreword to a volume of recipes from the Hubb Community Kitchen. It was set up by women displaced when fire destroyed the west London high-rise in June 2017, killing 72 people.
The recipes from Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and beyond reflect the diversity of the local community.
As the author of family-oriented cookbooks, I am often asked these two questions:
"When is a good time to have your kids start helping in the kitchen?" Answer: Now!
And, "Which tasks can kids do at what ages?" Answer: Depends on your kid.

Pastry chef Stella Parks wrote in her book "BraveTart: Iconic American Desserts" that the Borden milk company invented the recipe in 1931 to market sweetened condensed milk, a prime ingredient in Key lime pie.
But Key Westers Tuesday said Key lime pie was a Keys staple before that, citing local newspaper articles from 1926.
"The Best Cook in the World: Tales from my Momma's Table," (Alfred A. Knopf), by Rick Bragg.
Rick Bragg's latest book — "The Best Cook in the World" — is unusual enough in its approach that he felt obliged to explain what is intended.
"I guess you could call it a food memoir, but it is really just a cookbook, told the way we tell everything, with a certain amount of meandering," he writes.
And between the recipes and tales of great cooks in his Alabama family, Bragg meanders at length.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Perre Coleman Magness' latest cookbook came to be in sort of a funny way, particularly for a book about feeding the bereaved.
"The publisher asked me if I would be interested in doing a book on funeral food because it is a 'trending topic,'" she said. "I said that I could do one on Southern food, but not one for Lutherans in Minnesota or Italians from Brooklyn."
While she mulled it over, she called her mother, also a writer and also named Perre Magness.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — One of the traditional highlights of an English Christmas is the plum pudding served at the end of the meal - dense, rich, and dripping with rum butter or other boozey glaze.
It used to be a standard in Pittsburgh as well, if the recipes in the old cookbooks in the Heinz History Center archives are any indication, and it merits a return.
