COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) — A small plane crashed in a parking lot near an industrial plant east of Atlanta on Thursday evening, sending a plume of black smoke overhead, authorities and local news reports said.

COVINGTON, Va. (AP) — Three people, including a police officer, were fatally shot at a western Virginia gas station and convenience store Monday afternoon, police said.

Toney Poulston Jr., 42, of Covington, went to the store and confronted and ultimately shot a 64-year-old relative working there, Randall Paxton, Virginia State Police said in a news release.

$43M battery recycling plant set for Georgia, hiring 150

ATLANTA (AP) — A company that aims to recycle lithium ion batteries from vehicles and other uses will build its first large plant in suburban Atlanta, investing $43 million and hiring 150 people.

Battery Resourcers, based in Worcester, Massachusetts, made the announcement Wednesday, saying it would take over an existing building in Covington and ramp up to full operation by August.

Lawsuit targets Georgia plant over ethylene oxide releases

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — An Augusta company that uses ethylene oxide to sterilize medical instruments is being sued by residents, the latest such suit in Georgia.

The Augusta Chronicle reports the lawsuit by 20 current and former Augusta residents claims a plant operated by Kendall Patient Recovery emitted the cancer-causing gas, putting them at risk.

Korean firm SK plans $473M microchip part plant, hiring 400

COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) — A South Korean company will build a factory to make glass parts for computer chips east of Atlanta, investing $473 million and hiring 400 workers.

SK Group announced its plans Thursday, saying it will build the plant at the same site in Covington that hosts its plant named SKC that opened in 1996 making polyester films that can be used on solar panels, in packaging and for other uses.
