Miami (OH) blunts late Kent St. rally in 27-24 win

MIAMI, Ohio (AP) — Aveon Smith threw for 179 yards and ran for 71 yards, Tyre Shelton scored twice and Miami (Ohio) held off a fourth-quarter push from Kent State for a 27-24 win on Saturday.

Shelton scored on a 2-yard run and Kevin Davis added a 41-yard scoring run to close the first quarter to give Miami a 17-0 advantage.

Kent State tops Ohio in overtime 31-24

KENT, Ohio (AP) — Marquez Cooper rushed for a career-high 240 yards including the winning touchdown in overtime, Dante Cephas made several clutch catches on his way to personal best 246 yards receiving and Kent State defeated Ohio 31-24 on Saturday in a Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.

Crum, Kent State hold off Ohio 34-27

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Dustin Crum threw for one touchdown and ran for another and Kent State turned back Ohio 34-27 on Saturday.

The Golden Flashes (4-4, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) clinched the game when Andrew Glass kicked a 27-yard field goal that capped an 11-play, 65-yard drive with 3:04 left.
