CHICAGO (AP) — The Detroit Tigers are calling up three prospects, including right-hander Casey Mize, this week to make their major league debuts against the Chicago White Sox.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — It looked like a sure triple play. A double play, at least. In the end, the Detroit Tigers got just one out from it, and the Minnesota Twins made them pay.
Johnny Field homered twice, Jorge Polanco hit a bases-loaded triple and the Twins beat the Tigers 11-4 on Wednesday night.
The game turned on an odd play in the fifth inning with the Twins leading 6-4.
With Robbie Grossman on second and Tyler Austin on first and nobody out, Twins manager Paul Molitor called for a hit-and-run.
DETROIT (AP) — George Springer understood the situation as he was about to dive for Dawel Lugo's line drive in the eighth inning.
"I could tell I was either going to get to it, or this is going to be a really bad play," the Houston outfielder said. "I'm happy that I got to it."

DETROIT (AP) — The Tigers have put third baseman Jeimer Candelario on the 10-day disabled list with left wrist tendinitis.
Detroit announced the move Monday and made it retroactive to Sunday. Infielder Dawel Lugo was recalled from Triple-A Toledo.
Candelario is hitting .272 with five home runs and 16 RBIs. He joins Miguel Cabrera, Leonys Martin, Jordan Zimmermann, Alex Wilson and Daniel Norris on the DL for the Tigers.
