November 4, 2022 GMTHARLAN, Ky. (AP) — A Tennessee doctor who would fly to see patients in Kentucky was identified as the only person killed in a plane crash.
David Sanford, 55, of Knoxville, Tennessee, routinely flew to Harlan and Middlesboro to see patients, Harlan County Coroner Philip Bianchi told the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Kentucky motorists advised of lane closures; ferry reopens

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet also says the Dorena-Hickman Ferry connecting the state with Missouri across the Mississippi River has resumed operating.

March 21, 2022 GMTFRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Crews were searching Monday for a Kentucky miner who was working alone when a roof collapsed deep underground, officials said.
James D. Brown, 33, of Lynch began his shift as a roof bolter operator late Sunday at the D-29 Darby Fork mine in Harlan County, which is owned by Inmet Mining LLC, of Knoxville, Tennessee, the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet said.

Kentucky has nearly $1 million for illegal dump cleanup
February 7, 2022 GMTFRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Grants totaling nearly $1 million will be distributed to 18 Kentucky counties to help clean up 80 illegal dumps, Gov. Andy Beshear said in a news release.
Counties receving grants must agree to provide a 25% match, but the state could waive the local match requirement for cleanups that cost more than $50,000, officials said.

Funds to provide housing for human trafficking survivors
December 13, 2021 GMTFRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A housing assistance program for survivors of human trafficking will be developed in southeastern Kentucky with a federal grant, officials said.
The U.S. Justice Department awarded the $600,000 grant for a short-term housing program that will help trafficking survivors in Bell, Clay, Harlan, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Rockcastle, and Whitley counties, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said Friday in a statement.
