Riverview Coal LLC operates a massive underground coal mine in Union County. The new $35 million facility will be built in neighboring Henderson County, according to a media release from the Kentucky governor's office.

Churchill Downs Inc. agrees to buy Ellis Park in cash deal
September 15, 2022 GMTLOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Churchill Downs Inc. has agreed to buy Ellis Park in Henderson, Kentucky, for $79 million in cash.
The deal announced Thursday with Enchantment Holdings LLC includes Churchill Downs assuming Ellis Park’s opportunity to build a track extension facility in Owensboro.

August 26, 2022 GMTHENDERSON, Ky. (AP) — Two people were killed and two were wounded in a shooting at a homeless shelter for men in western Kentucky, and a suspect has been arrested, authorities said.
Officers responded Thursday evening to a report of an active shooter at the Harbor House Christian Center, the Henderson Police Department said in a statement on social media.

Ron Jenkins, 83, former veteran editor of The Gleaner, dies

Jenkins died Monday at The Heartford House hospice facility in Owensboro, The Gleaner reported.
Fire destroys barn at Ellis Park in Kentucky; horses safe

Sunday's racing program was canceled after the fire in the receiving barn, where horses are supervised and examined before running in a race.
