HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Ito Smith ran for three touchdowns, Kelsey Douglas returned two interceptions into the end zone and Southern Mississippi beat Charlotte 66-21 on Saturday.
Smith had a pair of short-yardage scoring runs in the second quarter. Douglas picked off Hasaan Klugh twice, and ran for 52- and 48-yard touchdowns in the first half. Parker Shaunfield kicked three field goals and Southern Miss (7-4, 5-2 Conference USA) led 38-7 at halftime.
HOUSTON (AP) — Kwadra Griggs completed 22 of 31 passes for 331 yards and three touchdowns and Ito Smith ran for 150 and two scores to propel Southern Mississippi to a 43-34 victory over Rice on Saturday.
Smith now has 1,018 yards rushing this season and he also became the 10th player in FBS history to top 4,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in a career.

Mullens, who sat out the last two games because of a concussion after having a 25-game starting streak end, became the Eagles' all-time touchdown passing leader with 86, passing Austin Davis (2008-11). D.J. Thompson had 135 yards receiving and two scores. Ito Smith added 127 yards rushing.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi tight end Evan Engram, Mississippi State receiver Fred Ross and Southern Miss running back Ito Smith are among the 10 finalists for this year's C Spire Conerly Trophy, which honors the best college football player in Mississippi.
Engram and Ross have been among the Southeastern Conference's top receivers this season. Engram has caught 65 passes for 926 yards and eight touchdowns while Ross has caught 67 passes for 835 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Mullens had 300 yards passing for the Golden Eagles (5-3, 3-1 Conference USA) to become the school's all-time leader with 11,057 career yards, surpassing the 10,892 yards of Austin Davis (2008-11). Ito Smith ran for 140 yards and two scores.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Ryan Kay kicked a 43-yard field goal, his third of the night, and Troy eked out a 37-31 victory with Southern Miss left knocking at the goal line as time expired Saturday night.
Troy (2-1) rebounded from last week's six-point loss at then-No. 2 Clemson. Kay hit from 42 yards early in the third quarter to break a 24-24 tie, and the Trojans extended the lead to 34-24 on Jordan Chunn's 39-yard run.
