NEW YORK (AP) — An all-star lineup that includes Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Shirley Caesar and many more will perform at Aretha Franklin's funeral next week.
The Queen of Soul's service will be held in Detroit on Aug. 31. Also slated to perform are Ron Isley, Chaka Khan, Yolanda Adams, Jennifer Holliday and Franklin's son, Edward Franklin.
The list was provided to The Associated Press on Thursday by Franklin's longtime publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Sam Moore of the soul duo Sam and Dave has been added to the list of performers for President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural events.
Moore told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he felt that the criticism leveled at singer Jennifer Holliday, which led to her to back out of the event, was unfair. Several other musicians have also backed away from performing.
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Broadway star Jennifer Holliday has backed out as a performer at next week's presidential inaugural following protests from her gay and black fans, further dimming the event's already low celebrity wattage.
Holliday, best known for her Tony-winning role in Broadway's "Dreamgirls," said in an interview Saturday she hadn't considered that singing at a Thursday concert by Washington's Lincoln Memorial would be judged a statement of support for President-elect Donald Trump.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump's inaugural welcome concert next week will feature country star Toby Keith, singer Jennifer Holliday and actor Jon Voight, organizers announced Friday.
The names add some celebrity flavor to an inaugural lineup that so far has been noticeably short on star power, with organizers insisting that Trump himself is the celebrity in chief for this inaugural.
NEW YORK (AP) — At the Broadway musical "The Color Purple," you can see a powerful tale of redemption and empowerment. That's not just the show — it's also the story of one of the actresses.
Jennifer Holliday has returned to Broadway for the first time in 15 years, and her appearance as the latest Shug Avery in the Tony-winning revival is something to cheer even before she sings a single note.
NEW YORK (AP) — Broadway's revival of "The Color Purple" has lured a real dream girl — Jennifer Holliday.
The Tony- and Grammy-winning singer takes over the role of Shug Avery from Heather Headley on Oct. 4. Headley took over from Jennifer Hudson at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
Holliday won a Tony in "Dreamgirls" as Effie "Melody" White — belting out a memorable "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going." She has appeared on TV and released her last CD in 2014, "The Song is You."
