RENO, Nev. (AP) — Officials with counterculture festival Burning Man say they won't install fences around major burns at this year's event in the northern Nevada desert, nearly a year after the death of a man who ran into flames of a towering wooden effigy.
BLACK ROCK CITY, Nev. (AP) — Burning Man organizers say they aren't currently affected by a nearby Nevada wildfire as the counter-culture festival prepares to culminate Saturday night with the burning of a towering effigy.
Burning Man spokesman Jim Graham said the event is proceeding apace.
More than 70,000 people are expected at the art and music celebration in the Black Rock Desert, about 100 miles (161 kilometers) north of Reno.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington's mayor and other city officials will pay tribute to the late former D.C. Council member Jim Graham.
Graham died June 11 at age 71. A Democrat, he served on the council from 1999 to 2015 and was one of two openly gay members in the history of the city legislature.
Before entering politics, Graham led Washington's largest gay men's health clinic during the height of the AIDS crisis.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Six people have been injured after a theme camp collapsed at the Burning Man festival.
The Reno Gazette Journal reports (http://on.rgj.com/2bEPs2Y ) that one person had to be airlifted off the site after the structure collapsed Monday night, the rest were treated at the festival's on-site medical facility.
Burning Man spokesman Jim Graham says one person received X-rays on-site and the rest of the injuries were minor.
