NEW YORK (AP) — John le Carre's best-selling novel "The Little Drummer Girl" was released in 1983 but remains timely — and that disturbs Alexander Skarsgard.
Skarsgard and Michael Shannon star in a six-hour miniseries based on the novel, playing Israeli agents on the hunt for a Palestinian bomber. "The Little Drummer Girl" premieres Monday night on AMC.
ATHENS, Greece (AP) — A panel of archaeologists has granted a British television crew access to an ancient site near Athens to film scenes for a TV adaptation of spy novelist John le Carre's "The Little Drummer Girl" — reversing a decision last week following strong government criticism.

The 20-year-old film student became a bit player in the story when she went to the Mill pub on March 4, only to learn the next day that a former Russian spy and his daughter might have been poisoned there a few hours earlier.
People don't usually move very fast in Cold War thrillers. Mostly, the only time anyone runs is right before they get shot in the back. Most of the "action" happens in a film cabinet, down a back alley or with a silencer. The classic Cold War tale — which is to say a John le Carre one — is characterized by a deathly stillness: grave faces meeting under gray clouds.
NEW YORK (AP) — Welcome back, George Smiley.
After a hiatus of more than 25 years, John le Carre is again writing about one of the world's most famous fictional spies. Viking told The Associated Press on Tuesday that le Carre's "A Legacy of Spies" will come out Sept. 5. According to the publisher, the novel is narrated by Smiley's trusted ally, Peter Guillam, who has been summoned to London out of his retirement.
