HOUSTON (AP) — Ronald Guzman said he is having the best week of his life, and after Saturday, it's hard to argue.
Guzman's first career homer tied the game in the eighth inning, and he put the Rangers ahead with an infield single in the 10th as Texas rallied from five runs down to beat the Houston Astros 6-5.
HOUSTON (AP) — Collin McHugh threw six innings, Marwin Gonzalez hit a two-run single and the Houston Astros defeated the Oakland Athletics 3-0 on Saturday night.
McHugh (1-2) gave up six hits and struck out three. McHugh, who missed the first 3 1/2 months with right shoulder tendinitis and a right elbow injury, has allowed two runs or fewer in four of his six starts this season.
HOUSTON (AP) — Houston had not been playing like the team with the best record in the American League over the last few weeks. But the Astros are showing signs of coming out of their slump after the offense came alive to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, winning consecutive games for the first time in three weeks.
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Astros continue to find ways to win, with their latest victory coming thanks to a player who was called up from the minors just a day earlier.
Juan Centeno hit an RBI single with two outs that capped a four-run rally in the ninth inning, lifting the Astros over the Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 Sunday for their 71st victory.
Centeno was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Saturday when catcher Evan Gattis landed on the disabled list with a concussion.
ATLANTA (AP) — Kyle Gibson is feeling stronger every time he gets to pitch.
"I'm just trying to keep developing into the guy I want to be," he said, "and you've got to go deep into the games when your team gives you a lead like that."
Gibson pitched his first nine-inning complete game and Minnesota beat Atlanta 10-3 on Wednesday night despite two hits from hyped Braves prospect Dansby Swanson in his big league debut.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — With their stagnant offense struggling the way it is, the Houston Astros can't afford the sort of defensive mistakes center fielder Carlos Gomez made Monday night.
Tyler Duffey pitched six effective innings and Minnesota took advantage of two misplays by Gomez in a three-run fifth that sent the Twins to a 3-1 victory over Houston.
Gomez, the former Twins outfielder, let Jorge Polanco's single skip by him for a two-base error that allowed one run...
BOSTON (AP) — Minnesota Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki left Saturday night's game against the Boston Red Sox in the second inning after getting hit in the mask with a foul ball.
Suzuki walked to the dugout with a team trainer holding a towel to his chin. The team announced later that Suzuki got stitches on his chin.
Boston's Dustin Pedroia was at the plate and fouled one off the catcher.
