LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — As much as the NFL would rather if everyone discussed all of the yards and TDs produced in game after game, and for whatever advancements have been made in player safety over time, pro football is, at its core, a brutal sport — and what happened to Alex Smith's right leg is not very different from what happened to Joe Theismann's right leg, exactly 33 years apart.
Thirty-three years to the day after the Redskins lost quarterback Joe Theismann to a broken leg, Alex Smith's season ended on an eerily similar injury in Washington's 23-21 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Osweiler threw three interceptions and failed to move the offense for most of the day in a 21-13 win by the Chargers.
O'Brien said that Osweiler would not be benched in favor of Tom Savage, but didn't elaborate or criticize his quarterback. Osweiler however, had plenty to say about what he did wrong on Sunday.
