She showed up in Paris wearing a black catsuit, a reminder that nobody can command the Grand Slam stage quite like Serena Williams.
She reached the finals at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, proving again how well she can play no matter how little she practices.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Olympic champion swimmer Simone Manuel of Stanford won the Honda Cup on Monday night for collegiate woman athlete of the year.
It's the second time Stanford has had back-to-back winners. Katie Ledecky, Manuel's Olympic and collegiate teammate, won last year. Swimmer Tara Kirk won the award in 2004, followed by volleyball player Ogonna Nnamani the next year.
Manuel, of Sugar Land, Texas, received the trophy at the Galen Center on the Southern California campus.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Five-time Olympic champion Katie Ledecky has signed with swimwear company TYR in her first endorsement deal since turning pro.
The California company said Friday the deal "represents the most lucrative partnership in the history of the swim industry." No terms were announced.
Ledecky says she wants to grow the sport and will work with the company toward that end. She is competing in Santa Clara this weekend in a Pro Swim Series meet sponsored by TYR.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Katie Ledecky looked as dominant as ever in her pro debut.
She set another world record in the women's 1,500-meter freestyle, shattering her previous mark by exactly five seconds and pulling away from everyone else in the IUPUI Natatorium pool.
Katie Ledecky is turning pro.
The five-time Olympic swimming gold medalist gave up her final two years of eligibility at Stanford, allowing her to concentrate on training for the 2020 Olympics while cashing in on sponsorship and endorsement deals that wouldn't have been available to her as a college athlete.
Katie Ledecky got her start in swimming because she just wanted to make friends. Her brother was eager to join a team at a pool near their house and as a 6-year-old, she tagged along.
By summer's end, the Ledecky siblings had made 100 friends ranging in age from 6 to 18. Some of them remain good friends with Katie, who went on to become the world's best swimmer in the post-Michael Phelps era.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky won male and female athlete of the year honors at the Golden Goggle Awards on Sunday night, recognizing the year's top performances by USA Swimming.
Dressel joined Michael Phelps as the only swimmers to win seven golds at a single world championships last summer in Hungary. It was the first time in 11 years that either Phelps or Ryan Lochte didn't win the top honor.
"I want to continue to learn and progress," Dressel said.
BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — OK, it wasn't like Katie Ledecky was a flop at the world championships.
Far from it.
She won five gold medals. She took silver in her other event.
"If that was my bad year for the next four years, then the next couple years are going to be pretty exciting," Ledecky declared.
But her performance in Budapest did prove one thing.
BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Katie Ledecky reached for the wall.
Someone else was already there.
For the first time ever at the world championships, Ledecky knows what it's like to lose.

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Katie Ledecky breezed to her third gold medal of the world championships, backing off a bit on her most grueling night of the meet.

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Katinka Hosszu has a case full of medals.
She wants so much more.

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Katie Ledecky is off to a golden start at the world championships.
Make it a double.
The 20-year-old American star began an audacious week by winning a pair of gold medals Sunday on the opening night of swimming along the Danube River. She cruised to a dominating victory in the 400-meter freestyle and put the U.S. ahead to stay in the 4x100 free relay.
Anchored by Nathan Adrian, the American men also won gold in the 4x100 free.

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Katie Ledecky shrugs off the notion that she's doing anything special over the next week.
For the 20-year-old American star, the improbable has become the expected.

Either way, the result was the same Tuesday night in Indianapolis: The two Olympic gold medalists qualified for another American world championship team.
Missy Franklin is so upbeat, so full of energy, so dang positive all the time, it's hard to imagine her ever going to a dark place.
After what happened last summer, though, it's only natural that she would start to question everything she stood for.
"Being totally honest with you, it's something that terrifies me," Franklin said, her perpetually positive tone suddenly filled with doubt and insecurity. "What if I'm never as good as I was?"
