GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Kevarrius Hayes had seen enough two weeks ago. Too many close losses. Too many silly mistakes. Too little effort too often.
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Kevarrius Hayes saw no reason to worry even as Florida was letting another second-half lead fade away.
"Trailing by five, we had a lot of fight in us," he said. "We understand the game is nowhere near over until the final buzzer. The game of basketball can change quickly."
KeVaughn Allen scored 13 points, Noah Locke added 10 points and the Gators rallied from a brief second-half deficit to beat Georgia 62-52 on Saturday.
STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — In need of a key bucket, No. 24 Mississippi State went to old reliable — Quinndary Weatherspoon in crunch time.
Weatherspoon converted a three-point play with 3.4 seconds left to lift the Bulldogs over Florida 71-68 on Tuesday night.
It was the sixth time in his career that Weatherspoon sank the winning shot. He drove the lane and was fouled by Kevarrius Hayes while dropping in the winning layup. Weatherspoon finished with nine points.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A precision pass the length of the court. A grown-man seal against two defenders. A dunk that stunned the home crowd and sent the South Carolina bench into a frenzy.
It was a final play executed to perfection.
Chris Silva's slam following a full-court pass from Felipe Haase with 2.5 seconds remaining gave South Carolina a 71-69 victory over Florida in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams Saturday night.
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Jalen Hudson's faith in his shot was finally rewarded, and his regained touch paid off Saturday for the Florida Gators.
The senior guard snapped a season-long slump by sinking three consecutive 3-pointers during a 2½-minute span midway through the first half, and the Gators went on to beat Florida Gulf Coast 77-56 Saturday in the Orange Bowl Classic.
Hudson, the Gators' leading scorer last season, came into the game shooting 29 percent, including 6 for 34 from 3-point range.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida showed it could make up for an off shooting night with some inside scoring production on Wednesday night against La Salle.
Kevarrius Hayes scored seven of his 12 points during a key 11-0 second half run as the Gators pulled away to beat La Salle 82-69.
Florida (2-1) shot just 23.1 percent (3-13) from 3-point range, but made up for it by outscoring La Salle 46-32 in the paint. Hayes went 5 for 5 from the floor, while Isaiah Stokes added nine points off the bench.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — After watching countless hours of video on Florida forward Devin Robinson, East Tennessee State coach Steve Forbes knew he would be a matchup problem.

"He's downright scary," Forbes said. "His length really affected us."
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida center John Egbunu will miss the remainder of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee at Auburn.
Egbunu, a 6-foot-11 redshirt junior from Nigeria, injured his knee in the first half of No. 15 Florida's seventh straight victory Tuesday night. Tests Wednesday revealed the extent of the injury. Florida says his recovery time is projected at 10 to 12 months.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Devin Robinson scored a career-high 24 points and No. 25 Florida made a school-record 19 3-pointers in a 106-71 victory over LSU on Wednesday night.
The Gators (15-5, 6-2 Southeastern Conference) had little problem in handing the Tigers their worst home defeat in 54 seasons. Florida took the lead for good at 11-8 on a 3-pointer by KeVaughn Allen less than 5 minutes into the game. The Gators had a double-digit lead before 9 minutes elapsed.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A lot of people expected Florida guard KeVaughn Allen to have a good night on his return to Arkansas. Even knowing that ahead of time did little to help the Razorbacks against the No. 25 Gators in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.
Allen hit key baskets to end run-after-Arkansas-run Thursday as Florida took an 81-72 victory. Daryl Macon scored 22 while trying to keep the Razorbacks close, but conceded after the game there was little to do but watch.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida freshman Dontay Bassett will miss the season because of a stress fracture in his right foot.
Bassett will have surgery, and with a recovery that is expected to take between four and six months, the Gators decided to redshirt Bass for the season.
