NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The euphoric wave originates in a single seismic event, 40 minutes of unexpected excellence washing out brackets across a nation.
A small school, around forever yet seeming to come out of nowhere, finds being a March Madness darling pays long-term dividends.
Mike Krzyzewski won his first NCAA Tournament game as Duke's coach in 1985 and his 98th on Friday night.
He was an up-and-comer with a hard-to-spell last name back then, and a contender for the title of college basketball G.O.A.T.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — No extended March stay for Loyola Chicago and Sister Jean this time.
Not with Ohio State taking away every inch of open space.
A look at what’s happening in the NCAA Tournament today:
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The packaging is still there. On the surface anyway. Don't be fooled. The whole “Cinderella” thing surrounding Loyola Chicago no longer applies.
Yes, the enduring symbol for the Jesuit school located hard against Lake Michigan in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood remains Sister Jean, the centenarian nun and team chaplain who became a folk hero during the school's stunning run to the Final Four in 2018.
CHICAGO (AP) — The NCAA Tournament begins this week and Loyola Chicago once again has its sights set on a deep run.
Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt plans to be along for the ride, of course. But this time, maybe, the Ramblers can leave the glass slippers at home.

This college basketball season feels like an extension of the last one, the coronavirus leaving pauses, cancellations and postponements in its wake.
A beacon of basketball brilliance has risen from the ashes: two of the nation’s best mid-majors squaring off in a junior college gym.
NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Jacob Hutson put up a career-high 26 points and Loyola Chicago salvaged a win in the seventh-place game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas, pulling away in the second half to post a 77-59 win over Arizona State on Friday night.

CHICAGO (AP) — Cameron Krutwig, who helped Loyola Chicago reach a Final Four as a freshman and return to the Sweet 16 as a senior this year, has decided to turn pro and skip his final year of eligibility.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Sweet 16 stars you know.
Kispert, Mobley, Zegarowski, Butler, Buddy Buckets — they've all been on national TV or talked about enough that even casual college basketball fans know their names.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Your bracket is shot. We know it. Ours is, too.
A year after the NCAA Tournament was canceled, the madness returned with an opening weekend full of upsets.
CHICAGO (AP) — Cameron Krutwig had 20 points and 11 rebounds as Loyola of Chicago won its ninth consecutive game, topping Evansville 68-55 on Saturday...
San Antonio – Over the first 30 minutes of the game, it looked like Michigan was going to become the next chapter of Loyola-Chicago's feel-good story.
That was until the Wolverines woke up from their slumber.
SAN ANTONIO – Many Loyola Chicago Ramblers history stories are being written this week here, and rightfully so. I took a deep look at the current-day Ramblers in Saturday’s paper, but the 1963 Loyola team and its legacy won’t be topped this weekend, no matter the outcome of Saturday’s semifinal against Michigan, or even Monday’s final.
Before there was Glory Road, there was Loyola of Chicago.
Of course, not many people know the story these days. At least they didn’t until the Loyola men’s basketball team made its improbable run to this weekend’s NCAA Final Four and reminded everyone of its ground-breaking national championship in 1963, when the Ramblers defied the unwritten rules of the day by starting four black players.
A few weeks ago, Loyola-Chicago was just another mid-major basketball program hoping to make the NCAA Tournament.
Now, after four victories — three coming in the final seconds — the Ramblers are the talk of college basketball.
