Halep won the Rogers Cup in Montreal on Aug. 12 and advanced to the finals in Cincinnati, losing in three sets Sunday to Kiki Bertens at the Western & Southern Open.

BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Karolina Pliskova left spectators puzzling yet again why her powerful game has never translated to grass-court glory when she lost in the first round of the Wimbledon warmup at Birmingham on Monday.
The 1.85-meter (6-foot-1) Czech with the superbly steep serve who appeared to have the world at her feet when she became No. 1 last year, was outplayed by 19th-ranked Magdalena Rybarikova 6-2, 6-3.

LONDON (AP) — Ranked 87th and unseeded at Wimbledon, Magdalena Rybarikova is making quite a run at the grass-court major.
The 28-year-old Slovak reached the semifinals at the All England Club on Tuesday, beating CoCo Vandeweghe 6-3, 6-3 and improving her record on grass to 18-1 this season.

LONDON (AP) — The Latest from Wimbledon (all times local):
CoCo Vandeweghe argued with chair umpire Kelly Thomson about whether a point in her Wimbledon quarterfinal loss should have been replayed because a line judge's call was distracting. Two points after the exchange, the match was over.
The 24th-seeded American told Thomson her explanation was "baloney" and said: "It is a distraction on the play. Have you ever played tennis?"
