CADILLAC, Mich. (AP) — Federal officials are delaying a ban on alcoholic beverages along sections of three rivers in the Huron -Manistee National Forest in northern Michigan.
Supervisor Leslie Auriemmo said Tuesday the prohibition will be put off for at least a year.
Officials announced the ban earlier this month, saying it would protect natural resources and public safety on the Au Sable, Manistee and Pine rivers.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture says a portion of Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula has been designated as a natural disaster area following a summer hailstorm that damaged crops.
Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced the designation Wednesday for Grand Traverse County.

MANISTEE COUNTY, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan construction worker was killed and another injured when they were struck by a car in a construction zone on U.S. 31 in Manistee County.
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon in the Village of Bear Lake.
Manistee County sheriff's deputies say a 20-year-old worker of Pentwater was standing off road with a 23-year-old worker from Ludington when the car struck them. The 20-year-old was killed.
CHARLEVOIX, Mich. (AP) — The National Weather Service has posted a lakeshore flood warning for six northern Michigan counties on Lake Michigan.
Forecasters say high winds and waves could combine to cause beach erosion and coastal flooding through Friday night. The counties are Emmet, Charlevoix, Leelanau, Antrim, Benzie and Manistee.
Swimming would be very risky. The Weather Service says people should stay off piers and jetties to avoid being swept into the water.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) — A western Michigan man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the slaying of another man whose dismembered body was found in a national forest by duck hunters.
A judge in Muskegon announced the verdict Wednesday for 29-year-old Anthony Blamer of Fremont following a bench trial last week.
Blamer testified that he shot 24-year-old D'Anthony Keenan as they sat in a vehicle at a car wash. Authorities have said money was taken from Keenan.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The West Virginia Division of Forestry has sent a crew of 20 to Michigan to help reduce the risk of wildfires.
The division says in a news release 12 trained division foresters and eight civilian firefighters left West Virginia on Wednesday. Some will be stationed at the Hiawatha National Forest in the Upper Peninsula and others will be at the Huron-Manistee National Forests.
Dry conditions exist in the region although no large wildfires have been reported.

DICKSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities in northwestern and southwestern Michigan say they have arrested teens accused of making threats against high schools.
Manistee County sheriff's officials say they contacted a teen Monday after learning about the threat to "shoot up" Brethren High School. Officials say he told deputies that he was joking.
Police say they confiscated an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and a cellphone from his home. He was taken to the county jail, where he awaits arraignment.
