SAN DIEGO (AP) — Justin Bour paused briefly to watch his three-run homer sail deep to right field, did a subtle bat flip and began his trot.

The first six Marlins batters reached and scored in the sixth, helping Tom Koehler (1-1) to his first win of the season.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — While Dee Gordon provided the craziest play of the game, his Miami Marlins still needed big performances from Giancarlo Stanton, Martin Prado and Dan Straily to beat the San Diego Padres 6-3 in 11 innings Saturday night.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Jose Martinez had an epiphany while watching video of Miguel Cabrera and Josh Donaldson, and he's hit his way onto the St. Louis Cardinals' opening day roster.

"We started watching some swings from Donaldson and Miguel Cabrera, and we noticed that they don't hit ground balls," Martinez said. "They eliminate them."

WASHINGTON (AP) — Martin Prado won't soon forget the lessons of this year's regular-season finale.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Now that it's clear his Miami Marlins' last game of the season will be completely meaningless in the standings — for his team, for the opponent, and for everyone else — manager Don Mattingly is handing over control to Martin Prado.
For the 2016 finale on Sunday, Prado will have double duty, playing third base and running the Marlins as their skipper-for-a-day against the Washington Nationals.

MIAMI (AP) — Cincinnati Reds left-hander John Lamb seemed to throw as softly as he could when he struck out Chris Johnson in the fourth inning on three pitches, each a 67-mph curve.
"Their guy had us baffled for a few innings," Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "He seemed to have us on a string."
Lamb totaled a career-high nine strikeouts in five innings Saturday, and in keeping with this miserable season for Cincinnati, that wasn't enough. The Reds made a...
MIAMI (AP) — Martin Prado wasn't optimistic when the ball left his bat, and Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly also underestimated the opposite-field fly.
Right fielder Jay Bruce was fooled, too, which meant trouble for the Cincinnati Reds.
Prado's fly fell for a two-out, two-run double that put the Marlins ahead to stay in the fifth inning, and they beat shaky Cincinnati 4-2 Saturday.
"It was weird — the ball kept carrying for some reason," Prado said....
