On a per-share basis, the Houston-based company said it had profit of $4.82. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $4.87 per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.76 per share.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — A former gas station clerk in St. Louis has been sentenced to more than nine years in prison for shooting a customer he wrongly suspected of stealing candy.
Taleb Jawher was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court, where he pleaded guilty in May to being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm. He is awaiting trial in state court on a first-degree murder charge.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — An oil pipeline spilled 3,400 barrels of crude oil on about 4 acres (1.6 hectares) of private property southeast of Great Falls, near Belt.
ABC Fox Montana reports the spill from the Phillips 66 pipeline happened on Nov. 14.
Cleanup has included vacuuming up spilled oil and removing contaminated soil.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Phillips 66 and Bridger Pipeline say they have preliminary plans for a new pipeline to send Bakken crude oil to Texas.
The companies say the Liberty Pipeline would transport 350,000 barrels of oil per day from the Bakken and Rockies production areas to Corpus Christi, Texas.

SEATTLE (AP) — Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has pledged $1 million to back Washington state's carbon fee ballot measure.
Initiative 1631 on the November ballot would charge large polluters an escalating fee on fossil-fuel emissions starting at $15 per metric ton.
Bloomberg's spokeswoman, Lee Cochran, said he announced his pledge Tuesday night in New York.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — A St. Louis man is the winner of $1 million in a Missouri Lottery game, becoming the 500th person to win a prize worth $1 million or more in the state lottery's 32-year history.
The Lottery said Thursday that Ramic Nijaz won the prize playing the "$300 Million Golden Ticket" scratchers game. He purchased the winning ticket at a Phillips 66 station on Lemay Ferry Road on Sept. 7.

SEATTLE (AP) — The fight over a ballot initiative that would charge a carbon pollution fee is already drawing big money.
Initiative 1631 would charge large industrial emitters an escalating fee of $15 per metric ton of carbon emissions starting in 2020. Money raised — about $1 billion in the first year — would pay for projects aimed at reducing pollution and protecting the environment.
If passed, it would be the first such direct fee on carbon emissions in the U.S.

BELLE CHASSE, La. (AP) — The body of a contract worker at a Louisiana refinery has been recovered days after a fatal fall.
Phillips 66 spokesman Dennis Nuss tells news outlets that a HydroChemPSC employee fell into the 15-foot-deep (5-meter-deep) water basin of the refinery's primary cooling tower on Wednesday night. Attempts to recover the worker were unsuccessful, leading to the beginning of a 48-hour shutdown process to allow emergency responders safe access.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A St. Louis gas station clerk facing a murder charge in the fatal shooting of a customer he believed tried to steal candy has pleaded guilty to a related federal gun charge.
The U.S. attorney's office announced Monday that 40-year-old Taleb Jawher admitted to being in possession of a firearm while in the country illegally, which carries up to a 10-year sentence. Immigration officials say Jawher, who is originally from Jordan, came to the U.S. legally but overstayed his visa.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Billionaire Warren Buffett's company on Wednesday revealed a new investment in struggling Israeli drugmaker Teva Pharmaceuticals and trimmed its holdings in oil refiner Phillips 66 by selling 35 million shares back to the company for $3.3 billion.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Yellowstone County commissioners in Montana have approved a tax break sought by the Phillips 66 oil refinery in Billings.
The tax break approved Tuesday is for a project that improved the refinery's crude oil processing and sulfur recovery. The project began in 2015 and was completed in June. The project cost close to $300 million.

SWEENY, Texas (AP) — Homeowners southwest of Houston claim in a lawsuit that temporary dams erected by Phillips 66 and Phillips Chevron to protect two facilities from Harvey floodwaters caused their own land to flood.
The lawsuit filed last week in Brazoria County alleges that inflatable barricades were placed along two bayous near Sweeny in August to protect a refinery and a chemical plant from flooding.
NEW YORK (AP) — Gas prices hit a high for the year on Labor Day as refineries work to recover after Harvey.
As of Monday, the nationwide average for a gallon of gas was averaged $2.638, according to the AAA. That's up from $2.45 on Thursday.
Gas prices are expected to decline by mid- to late September because early reports do not show significant damage to refineries in Corpus Christi and Houston, AAA spokeswoman Jeanette Casselano said in a statement Thursday.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Energy Secretary Rick Perry said Thursday he is releasing 500,000 barrels of crude oil from an emergency stockpile in a bid to prevent gasoline prices from spiking in the wake of disruptions caused by Harvey.
Perry said he's authorized immediate shipments of crude to the Phillips 66 refinery in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The oil will be replenished under an exchange arrangement similar to a loan.
FERNDALE, Wash. (AP) — Phillips 66 is appealing a $37,800 fine for a toxic acid leak at a refinery near Bellingham that sent seven workers to a hospital in February.
The Bellingham Herald reported Friday (https://goo.gl/ayA3NM ) the company appealed the fine from the Washington Department of Labor & Industries. The company also appealed the agency designation of the violations as "serious."
The agency fined the company $6,300 each for six violations.

PARADIS, La. (AP) — An evacuation near a pipeline fire in south Louisiana was lifted Friday but a worker missing since the night before remained unaccounted for.
St. Charles Parish authorities said the fire had significantly diminished by midday at the Phillips 66 pipeline station. A company statement said flow to the pipeline, which carried liquid natural gas components, had been blocked but product still in the line continued to burn. It was unclear when it would burn out.

PARADIS, La. (AP) — One worker was missing and two were injured after an explosion sparked a fire at a Louisiana pipeline Thursday night, officials said.
Authorities don't yet know what caused the fire on the Phillips 66 pipeline in Paradis, but a crew of six workers was cleaning it at the time, St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne said at a news conference.
Rex Tillerson, the former Exxon CEO picked by President-elect Donald Trump to be the next secretary of state, owns stock in some of his old competitors and a slew of other companies with operations around the world.
Tillerson's holdings include shares of Chevron Corp., Royal Dutch Shell, Apple Inc. and General Electric Co. He disclosed them in a filing with the federal Office of Government Ethics.
