ATLANTA (AP) — Before there was Jared Goff, there was Warren Beatty.
Years before Goff or any of today's Rams were born, Beatty had been carried off on his teammates' shoulders to celebrate a Rams title that only Hollywood could dream up.
He played quarterback Joe Pendleton in the 1978 Academy Award nominated movie "Heaven Can Wait." At the end, he leads LA to an otherworldly Super Bowl victory over the Steelers.
Dick Modzelewski, a star defensive tackle who appeared in eight NFL titles game with the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns during the 1950s and '60s, has died. He was 87.
He died Friday at his home in Eastlake, Ohio, outside Cleveland, the Giants said in a statement Saturday. No cause was given.
Modzelewski spent 14 years in the NFL, eight with the Giants that included six title games. He teamed with Andy Robustelli, Rosey Grier and Jim Katcavage on one of the great defensive lines.
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Tom Cruise, "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert and the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia are among the 51 people nominated for the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
The hall honors people in five categories who live or have lived in New Jersey. Cruise spent part of his early years growing up in New Jersey, and Colbert lives in Montclair. Scalia was born in Trenton.
Other nominees include former Giants quarterback Phil Simms, author Fran Lebowitz and publisher Steve Forbes.
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Kelly Ripa, singer Wyclef Jean and soccer pro Carli Lloyd are among the 15 newest members of the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
The group announced Tuesday also includes singer Connie Francis, actor Ray Liotta and musician Tommy James for the performing arts. TV journalist Connie Chung and author Carol Higgins Clark represent arts and letters.
Basketball Hall of Famer Carol Blazejowski, heavyweight boxer Chuck Wepner and NFL Pro-bowler Rosey Grier are the sports inductees.
